Why we built this
We kept seeing the same thing.
A bank could show exactly what it had decided. Almost never why.
The precedent someone cited, the exception someone made, the objection someone raised and was overruled on - all of it happened in a room, and within weeks it was gone. When the person left, it went with them.
Nobody had built for it
Reasoning happens in conversation, and conversation was never a system of record.
Enterprise software spent forty years perfecting the record of the outcome. The reasoning behind it was never anybody's job.
We have been long enough inside these systems to stop treating that as an accident.
It gets worse as institutions get more complex, and it is the same in a bank, an insurer, a law firm and a hospital.
Institutions should become wiser with time, not more forgetful.
